Carlos Dew, Jr., Captain United States Navy (Retired.), a resident of the Edgewood Retirement Community in North Andover, Massachusetts, died on March 9 in 2019. He was born on October 23, 1924 in El Paso, Texas, the son of Carlos and Kate Smith Dew of Trenton, Tennessee. He was a graduate of Peabody High School in Trenton, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Naval War College, George Washington University and the Boston University School of Law.
During 29 years of active naval service he served in variety of sea and shore assignments, chiefly relating to submarines. He commanded two submarines: USS BARBERO (SSG348) and USS ETHAN ALLEN (SSBM608) and Submarine Squadron Seven based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii..
His wife of 63 years, Dorinda Rathbone Dew, died in October 2009.
He is survived by five children: Dorinda Dew Whitsett of Cincinnati, Ohio, Carlos Dew, III of Newport, Rhode Island, Katherine Dew Floyd of Cary, North Carolina, Henry Rathbone Dew of Portland, Oregon, and Ann Angell Dew Roush of Weare, New Hampshire, and by eleven grand children and eight great grandchildren.
A funeral service for family members will be private. Burial will be in Juniper Hill Cemetery, Bristol Rhode Island.
