Aldona A. (Vaiksnovas) Belmer, 89, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at High Pointe Hospice in Haverhill.
The daughter of the later Victor and Broncia (Mikalonis) Vaiksnovas, Aldona was born in Lawrence on February 5, 1929. She was educated in Methuen schools and was a graduate of Searles High School in Methuen. She travelled extensively overseas with her first late husband, Forest D. Hicks, who was a military photographer, raising her family as a homemaker. They returned to this area in 1960. After the death of Forest, she married Myron W. Belmer, and resided in Methuen since then.
She was employed as a layout operator at Western Electric–AT&T, retiring after 28 years of service. She attended St. Monica’s Church, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. A very family-oriented person, Aldona enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, all animals, especially her chickens, feeding birds, and any outdoor activities.
The wife of the late Forest D. Hicks and Myron W. Belmer, Aldona is survived by her children: Alfred D. Hicks and his wife Deborah of Alfred, ME; Paul A. Hicks and his wife Susan of Ashland, NH; Clifford E. Hicks and his wife Deborah of Londonderry, NH and Donna M. Morrow and her husband Del of Methuen; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was the last survivor of 4 brothers and one sister.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to a funeral Mass on Monday, January 14, 2019, at 11:00 AM in St. Monica’s Church, Lawrence St., Methuen. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. At Aldona’s request, there are no calling hours.
