Adelaide Louise (Hildebrand) Burns

Adelaide Louise (Hildebrand) Burns, 96, of Lawrence passed away peacefully at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill on Sunday, August 18, 2019.

The daughter of the late Alfred and Evelyn (Colby) Hildebrand, she was born on April 30, 1923, in Lawrence and raised on Greendale Street in Methuen. She was educated in the Methuen schools and graduated Tenney High School.

Adelaide devoted her life to making a loving home to all who needed one. She began caring for children at the age of fifteen when her mother passed away and she raised her younger brothers. She and her husband had seven children, adopted six and provided a foster home to scores more. Later in life she enjoyed cataloging her family’s history through thousands of photographs, some dating back over a century.

Adelaide was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Earl F. Burns, who passed away in 2011. Also predeceasing her were her daughters Dorothy Burns and Kory Betz and her brother Alfred Hildebrandt and his wife Mary. She is survived by her brother Charles W. Hildebrand and his wife Ann of Gloucester, and her children, Edward Burns of San Francisco, CA, Richard Burns and his wife Susan of Haverhill, Robert Burns of Lawrence, Andrew Burns and his wife Karen of Haverhill, David Burns and his wife Marsha of Ridgefield, WA, Kathy Burns of Fitchburg, Debbie Burns of Lawrence, Daniel Burns of Haverhill, Kreg Burns and his wife Jill of Hampton, NH, James Burns and his wife Tina of Lawrence, and Christyne Munoz of Nashua, NH. She will be remembered by her 24 grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and an abundance of extended family and friends.

Calling hours will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2019, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. A funeral service will be held, following calling hours, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
