Walter H. Pomerleau passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the age of 89.
Born and raised in Lawrence, MA, he resided in the city his entire life. Mr. Pomerleau was a WW II Coast Guard veteran and a member of the American Legion. He was also a life member of the Lawrence Elks #65 and a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.
He was the founder and first president of the Mt. Vernon Association where he was honored with the title of, “The Mayor of Mt. Vernon,” which he was immensely proud of because of his love for his neighborhood as well as the city of Lawrence.
Mr. Pomerleau worked as a truck driver for Radio Foods in Lawrence for 28 years and retired as a Teamster Foreman for United Liquors until his retirement in 1984.
As a youngster, he attended St. Anne’s Grammar School and was a member of the St. Anne’s Crusaders, a Drum & Bugle Corps. He then attended Lawrence High School which he did not graduate from due to enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942. In June of 2011, Mr. Pomerleau was awarded his diploma at the young age of 89. It was a proud moment both for him as well as his family.
He was predeceased by the “love of his life,” his wife, Gabrielle. He is survived by his son: Walter M. of Rowley; his daughter: Janice A. of Taunton; his grandchildren: Walter M. Jr. of Rowley; Lynne M. of Salisbury; Sherrie McGrath and her husband Troy of Amesbury; also by the “joy of his life,” his great-grandchildren: Madison and Nolan McGrath and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visiting hours will be from the Arthur J. Scott Funeral Home, 298 So. Broadway, Lawrence on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm Followed by a funeral mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 118 So. Broadway, Lawrence on Wednesday, June 27, at 9:00am. Relatives and friends invited.
Interment will be private.

Janice and Walter, We all went to school together at SHS in South Lawrence. I have fond memories of your family. I visited your home with Janice and met your wonderful parents. I am so sorry for your loss. He is now with his LORD and Savior. Try to focus on the happy times.

Walt, I have thought of you often in the 12 years since moving to Florida. You were a good friend and neighbor. You were a ROCK for the 11th commandment that Jesus gave us. "Love God and love your neighbor".

Sorry to hear of Walter's passing. We were in Grammar School together,and the St Anne's Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps
We both were born in June, and only five days apart. I am one
year older, the 20th.
My deepest sympathy to his family and close friends.
May he rest in Peace.
