William T. Westaway

William T. Westaway, 91, of North Andover, passed away Friday, November 20, 2015. Married to J.Claudine (Deane) [McCain] Westaway for 68 years, he was the son of George and Gwendolyn Westaway and brother of Jack. Born and raised in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, he lived most of his life in Andover and Lawrence.

Bill served in the Royal Canadian Navy in World War II. He attended Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and received an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from Nova Scotia Technical College in Halifax.

Over the years, he worked for Western Electric and Honeywell Systems as an electrical engineer. Since moving to Andover in 1954, Bill had been an active member of the West Parish Church and was prominent in the movement to preserve and maintain the cemetery within the church property.

Bill is survived by his children, William D. and his wife, Deborah, Bruce and his wife, Carmie, Dorothy, Barry and his wife, Karrie, Deborah and her partner, Brad MacGowan; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews.

Bill will be remembered by all for providing for his family of 7, his dry sense of humor, his resilience, and his love of learning.

At the request of the family, there are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at the West Parish Church in Andover, at 2 p.m., on Saturday, December 5, 2015. Interment will be in the West Parish Cemetery. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the West Parish UCC Church of Andover or the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, Mass.
