Ruth Mae (Broomhall) Scammon 88, passed away on February 28th, 2017 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen after a brief illness. She was born in Rumford, Maine on October 16th, 1928 to Ethel Mae Curtis and Arthur Broomhall. Ruth graduated from Stephens High School in 1947.

Ruthie, as everyone called her, was a very devoted wife and mother. She was a homemaker and later on in life worked as a buyer for Russem's department store in Lawrence.

Ruthie was very active at the Methuen senior center as well as at the Housing Authority where she lived for 11 years. She was an active bowler and continued to do so into her early 80's. She loved playing bingo and her occasional trips to Foxwoods. She enjoyed knitting and loved to read. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and would always volunteer her time to help others!

Ruthie will be sadly missed and will leave a void in the many lives of people who knew her. But when you think of her, smile, because she touched us all!

Ruthie is survived by three sons: Stephen F. Scammon, Michael F. Scammon, both from Methuen and Thomas W. Scammon of Raymond, NH; her grandsons: Michael, Nicholas and Jonathan, all of Methuen; granddaughter Shauna Walls and her husband Randall and their daughters Leigha and Kaitlyn of Lisbon Falls, Maine, Katie Olsen from Carbondale, Colorado; her brothers: Wendall (Chummy), Erlon (Bucky) and his wife Francis, Raymond and his wife Judy, and Phillip (Butch); her sister: Ethylene; and unfortunately too many nieces and nephews to list!

Ruthie was predeceased by her husband George Frank Scammon, daughters Barbara Jean and Margaret Ann; her brothers: Victor, Charles, William and Robert; and sisters: Margaret, Irene and Elaine.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, March 6, 2017, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the chapel at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA.
