Michael P. Tinney, 67, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2017, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, with his loving family at his side, after a hard fought battle against illness. He was the beloved husband of Shanda (Kirkwood) Tinney, to whom he was married for 14 years.

The son of the late Harold E. and Eleanor M. (Driscoll) Tinny, Michael was born in Lawrence. He was a graduate of Holy Trinity Grammar School, Lawrence High School and received his degree from Southern New Hampshire University. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War at Fort Jackson and also served in the United States Army Reserves. He was employed at St. Ann’s Home in Methuen for most of his working life as a behavior management counselor. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish until its closing.

Michael loved the outdoors and was a hunter, fisherman, skier, skater, and a lifelong member of the Centralville Gun Club. He loved his dogs who accompanied him on his outdoor adventures. He was an avid fan of the New England Patriots back to when they were the Boston Patriots, as well as a lifelong fan of the Bruins.

Michael always put family first with extraordinary loyalty. In addition to his parents and various other relatives, he was predeceased in death by his niece, Jennifer L. Tinney, whom he missed for the rest of his life. Michael is survived by his son, Michael J. Tinney, of whom he was deeply proud, and Michael’s wife, Ashley, along with cherished grandchildren, Oliver and Willow; his brothers, Joseph Tinney and his wife Deborah, and Harold Tinney and his wife Suzann; his cousins, Carol and Mary Keronski; former wife, Debra J. Tinney; brothers-in-law, Stephen Kirkwood and Anthony Kirkwood; mother-in-law, Karen Kirkwood, and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 17, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Monica’s Church, Lawrence St., Methuen. Burial will follow in the Polish National Cemetery, Methuen. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to call Thursday, March 16, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
