Mary J. Lucci

December 3, 1920 ~ November 3, 2015 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Mary J. Lucci passed away at home in Andover on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, in the presence of her loving children and grandchildren.

Mary was born December 3, 1920 in Akron, Ohio, daughter of Wilbert and Mary Thiesse. She was raised in Cleveland with her beloved sister, Sal, and brothers Ed and Ralph. Mary met her husband Tom Lucci at the Trianon Ballroom in Cleveland while he was on leave from the U.S. Army, and they were married May 8, 1943. Tom returned from World War II and they settled in Avon Lake, Ohio, where she gave birth to her children Tom and Lori. After a move to Edina, Minnesota, the family settled in Wellesley in 1958.

Mary was a devoted wife and mother, who also served as secretary at Christ Church Methodist. Tom Sr. was promoted to Cleveland in 1973, where they both were reunited with close relatives. In 1990, they settled in Andover to be with their children and grandchildren.  Mary steadfastly stood with her husband in his battle with lung cancer until his death in 1995. Throughout her life, she remained unfailingly kind, patient, and respectful, well-grounded and at peace with who she was. She was in her element creating practical yet pleasing results in the kitchen and in the garden - even when her arthritis made simple acts challenging. The birth of a great-grandchild brought joy to her final months.

Mary is survived by her two children: Thomas Lucci and wife Marlene DeLeon of Foxborough, Lorraine Luber and husband Jack of Andover; grandchildren Mark Lucci of Napa, CA, Matthew Lucci of Boston, Marie Clouqueur and husband Thomas of Arlington, Gary Luber of Andover, and Jennifer Luber of Andover; great-grandson Gabriel Clouqueur; sister Laura (Sal) Jamieson of Cleveland, OH; sister-in-law Virginia Kovach of Cleveland; and many nieces and nephews.

A family graveside service will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, www.arthritis.org or 1330 W. Peachtree St., Suite 100, Atlanta, GA 30309. Online remembrances can be made at www.dewhirstfuneral.com.
