Lillian K Marcello, 93 of Methuen, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, September 2nd, 2017, at Lawrence General Hospital after a brief illness.

Lillian began her life in Lawrence on January 7, 1924 under humble beginnings. She, like so many others of that era, grew up in the Great Depression, which shaped her character for the rest of her life. Lillian was very proud of her Irish-English heritage. She always considered others and was always ready to help those in need. She knew the value of close family ties and demonstrated that throughout her life, with her many friends and family members. She always began her day by praying for the welfare and needs of others.

Lillian was born to parents Fred and Katherine (Kennedy) Mitchell in Lawrence. She attended school in Lawrence and Salem, NH. She went to work in the mills in Lawrence at an early age to help support her family. Eventually her family moved to Methuen, where she met her husband, Joseph.  Joseph and Lillian were married on April 7, 1951 and went on to raise 3 children. They recently celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Lillian was predeceased by her sisters; Irene, Arlene, and Mary, her younger brother, Freddie, her sister-in-law, Joan Rice, whom she was very close to, and her son-in-law, Edward Kawash.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph E., and her loving children; son, Joseph R. and his wife, Lynelle; daughters, Kathleen Chichester and her husband, Edward and Katherine Kawash. She also leaves behind her loving grandsons; Anthony and his wife, Hollee, James, and Joseph T., and great-grandson, Ronny Marcello. She leaves her best friend and “Guardian Angel”, Agnes Riel, in sorrow.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Nevins Nursing Home for the wonderful care that Lillian received in the last year of her life. Also, the family would like to thank the staff of Fresenius Dialysis Center, 100 Milk St, Methuen for all the care and concern that Lillian received in the last 5 years, and also all of the special friendships that she formed there. The family would also like to applaud the efforts that Patriot’s Ambulance Service displayed and were of great importance in Lillian’s care and were very much appreciated.
