Laurel E. (Knights) Stallone, 76, of Methuen passed away on Sunday April 10, 2016 at her home. Mrs. Stallone was born in Exeter, NH on April 15, 1940.
She was the daughter of the late, Charles and Lucy (Huntress) Knights. Laurel was educated in E. Kingston, NH and she graduated from Sanborn Seminary, Kingston, NH with the class of 1958. During her high school vacation years, she worked at Nichols Hatchery in Hampton, NH and then worked at The Internal Revenue Service in Andover for 36 years until her retirement in 1995. She was a volunteer fund raiser for The American Heart Association and she received many superior achievement awards from The IRS at her retirement. She received The Albert Gallant Award from the treasury for meritorious service. She was an avid bingo player and at one time, she was one of the small number of women race car drivers and raced at the former Pine Speedway in Groveland, MA. She attended Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence and St Lucy Church in Methuen.
Her family members include her loving husband of 53 years, Frank A. Stallone of Methuen and her son, Michael C. and his wife, Jantina (Fritts) Stallone of Derry, NH. Laurel leaves 2 sisters, Dianne Haggerty of Seabrook, NH and Betsey Wallace of Barefoot Bay, FL. as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Arlene St. Laurant and her brothers, John L. Webster and Albert C. Webster.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday April 18, 2016 from 4 pm to 8 pm at The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. A Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday April 19 at 10:00 am at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, Lawrence. Burial will be in St Mary Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Laurel’s name to All Care Hospice, 210 Market Street, Lynn, MA 01901.
