John D. Sheehy

John “Jack” D. Sheehy, age 68, of Methuen passed away after a courageous battle with complications after a surgery to remove cancer on February 27, 2018.

Born in Lawrence but a long time resident of Methuen, Jack was the beloved son of Frances P. (Sullivan) Sheehy and the late John A. Sheehy of Lawrence.  Jack was a graduate of Austin Prep and Suffolk University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in education. He was a loyal and dedicated educator in the Lawrence Public Schools for 35 years before retiring in 2007, teaching mainly middle school science and social studies at the Kane and Frost Schools.

Throughout his life Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and educator. He loved and dearly missed his wife of 38 years Janice (Faerber) Sheehy who passed away in April of 2013. He was an outstanding father and role model to his two sons Brian and Christopher Sheehy who both followed him into the field of education.  He was a loving and caring grandfather to his three grandchildren Brynn, Owen, and Connor who loved running up to “Da” whenever he came over.

He had a passion for life and was always willing to offer a kind word, play a game of cards, or give his opinion on the current status of the New England sports teams.  Jack was an active member of several organizations including the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Elks Lodge #65, the Bavarian Club, and the Concordia Club.

Jack is survived by his mother, Frances P.  (Sullivan) Sheehy of Lawrence; his sons Brian Sheehy and wife Melanie, Christopher Sheehy, and grandchildren Brynn, Owen, and Connor Sheehy.  He was predeceased by wife Janice Sheehy, father John A. Sheehy and his brothers James F. Sheehy and Thomas W. Sheehy.

Jack is also fondly remembered by other members of his family and his many friends.

A funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 5, 2018, at St. Patrick’s Church, 118 So. Broadway, Lawrence at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
