Joan A. Maynard, 78, of Salem, NH, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2015, at the Prescott House Nursing Home, North Andover.

Joan was born in Lawrence on July 19, 1936 to the late Herbert and Alma (Caron) Sunderland. Prior to her retirement, Joan was employed for over 25 years by the Raytheon Corporation. Earlier, Joan had worked as a hairdresser.  

She enjoyed bingo, going for rides to the beach, dining out (especially for sea food), and listening to country-western music. 

Joan particularly enjoyed many a shopping or restaurant trip out with her close friend, Betty, who was a loyal and supportive friend for many years. 

Joan will be missed by her very best friend, Betty, and her niece and nephew, Faith and Jeffrey. 

At Joan’s request, private services were held on Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, Methuen, MA. Burial was at the Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
