Joan L. (Abate) Hall, 90, of Methuen, died Monday April 2 at Maplewood Nursing Center in Amesbury.
Joan was born in Methuen on March 2, 1928 to the late Alfio and Leona (Angelari) Abate. She was a graduate of Searles High School and Merrimack College and served as a U.S. Naval Reservist.
Joan was an advocate for Methuen residents as a Town Councilor, School Committee, Methuen Housing Authority and she worked for the Essex County Sheriff’s office. As a Justice of the Peace, she performed many marriage ceremonies over the years for friends & family. Early in her career, Joan was appointed as the first woman constable in Essex County.
The widow of the late Ralph H. Hall, Sr., Joan is survived by her children, Kimberly Soule and her husband Don of Somersworth, N.H., Raymond C. Hall and his wife Carolyn of Methuen, Brian D. Hall and his wife Diane of Manalapan NJ and Dorothy L. Hall of Plaistow NH. She was predeceased by her son Ralph H. Hall, Jr. Also among her survivors are her twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 7, at 10 AM at the Dewhirst Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
