H. Roger Crabtree

H. Roger Crabtree, 84, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2018, at the Holy Family Hospital with his son, daughter and son-in-law at his side.

Roger was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in July of 1933 to the late Henry J. and Josephine (Buckley) Crabtree. He is predeceased by two sisters, Gloria (Crabtree) O’Rourke of Palm Beach, FL and Patricia (Crabtree) Melanson of North Andover, MA.

Roger was employed first as a lineman and more recently as an engineer for Verizon prior to his retirement. He enjoyed yard work, house projects, the daily crossword, and old-fashioned candy. He was fascinated by technology and loved parades (almost as much as his grandchildren). 

Roger was a graduate of Lawrence High School at the age of 16 and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Suffolk University at the age of 20. He was a U.S. Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis as a radio operator.

Roger is the widower of the late Maureen (Walsh) Crabtree. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Casey and her husband Joseph of Chester N.H. and his son, Matthew Roger Crabtree of Methuen. Also among his survivors are his 4 grandchildren, Catherine Casey, Nicholas Casey, Ashley Casey and Sean Casey all of Chester, N.H. 

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, January 8th at 11 AM at St. Monica's Church, Methuen. A burial will be scheduled for a later date. Family and friends may call from 9-10:30 AM on Monday prior to the Mass at the Dewhirst Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen.
