David J. “Murph” Murphy, 69, of Boynton Beach, FL, passed away on February 2, 2016, after a courageous fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife Cynthia, his brother Edward, and friends Dawn and Paul Marchand.

David was born in Lawrence, MA and grew up in Salem, NH graduating in 1964 from Woodbury High where he played for the Bluer Devil basketball team and was a full back on the football team. He then served aboard the USS Tanner in the Navy from 1964-68 and was a Vietnam veteran. He retired after 25 years of service from Raytheon of Andover, MA.

After retirement, he married the love of his life, Cindy, and they made their home in Boynton Beach, FL. He enjoyed gardening, was an avid golfer, and a fan of all New England sports. David was a very kind an gentle man, a loving husband, father, brother and friend to many.

David is survived by his loving wife Cindy, his sister Maureen Murphy of Methuen, MA, brother Edward Murphy of Boynton Beach, FL, stepdaughters Amanda (Parkhurst) and her husband Scott Herrick, Tifany and her husband Costa Lazarakis; grandchildren, Dylan, Garcia and Vageli; nephews Douglas Desrochers, Derek Desrochers, his wife Suzanne along with grandnephews Damien, Chase and Ben; and his loving dog BamBam. He was predeceased by his parents Maurice “Speed” and Frances (LaPlante) Murphy and his sister Diane Desrochers.

Calling hours will be on Monday April 11, 2016 from 4 to 7 pm at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. A memorial service followed by Military Honors will be at 7 pm on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
