History of the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Homes

Charles F. Dewhirst Sr.

The Charles F. Dewhirst Family Funeral Homes began in 1949.

Founded by Charles F. Dewhirst Sr., a licensed funeral director since 1926, the funeral home opened to provide service to the Merrimack Valley. Charles F. Dewhirst Jr., joined the Family Funeral Home in 1956 and Richard C. Dewhirst, the grandson and present owner, joined the Family Funeral Homes in 1981. The Dewhirst family joined with Paul and Andrea Bekenhuis to add the Charles F. Dewhirst Andover Funeral Home in 1998.

In 1999, the Dewhirst family joined with Mrs. Joan Emmert to include the Emmert and Dewhirst Funeral Home in the Prospect Hill section of Lawrence.

In 2002, the Dewhirst family joined with Mrs. Jean Scott to include the Arthur J. Scott Funeral Home, which is located in the South Lawrence section of the city of Lawrence.

The Dewhirst family has endeavored to maintain the family owned quality of all its funeral homes, while providing quality and compassionate care throughout the entire Merrimack Valley area.
